Our Story

A Richmond Legacy

A Richmond landmark for over a century, our building was originally constructed in 1892 to house Richmond Brewery. Business was booming until 1916, when Virginia’s pre-Prohibition ban on alcohol led to its demise. The E.M. Todd Company bought the property, bringing the manufacturing of brand-name meat products to Richmond. The building was expanded 1920 to include five-story smoke houses. Some of our exposed brick walls still display smoke stains from the ham curing that began nearly 100 years ago. E.M. Todd company ceased operations at the plant in 1998 and is now located in Smithfield, remaining one of the best known of Virginia’s meat products.
